End-of-Year Donations

How to Help

You may be able to deduct donations made to Habitat for Humanity of Kanawha & Putnam on your 2023 tax returns.

Following tax law changes, cash donations of up to $300 made this year by December 31, 2023, are now deductible without having to itemize when you file your 2023 taxes. This means that you can claim a deduction of up to $300 for cash contributions to qualifying charities during 2023. The maximum deduction is $600 for married individuals filing joint returns.

Only donations made before the close of the tax year would be eligible.

After you donate to Habitat, you will get a receipt that can be used with your 2023 tax returns. We suggest you contact your tax advisor or accountant or visit the IRS website for more information.

The IRS has a few reminders for those who want to make end-of-year donations:
Donations are only deductible in the year they were made. If you donate on December 31, 2023, at 11:55 p.m., you should be able to claim that donation when you file your 2023 taxes. If you take the standard deduction, you can claim up to $300 in charitable giving, $600 for married couples. For higher amounts, you’ll need to itemize your deductions. Visit the IRS website for more information.
