AmeriCorps NCCC Volunteers to Boost Habitat's Efforts in Charleston

AmeriCorps NCCC and Habitat for Humanity of Kanawha & Putnam side by side, representing their partnership in building homes and communities.

This September, Habitat for Humanity of Kanawha & Putnam is gearing up for a transformative chapter in our mission to build homes, communities, and hope. We’re thrilled to announce the arrival of a dedicated AmeriCorps NCCC team to Charleston. These young volunteers, part of the National Civilian Community Corps, will spend six weeks working alongside our staff, local volunteers, and partner families to make significant strides on our current projects.

The NCCC team, composed of individuals aged 18-26 from diverse backgrounds, will be an essential force in our ongoing work at 908 Grant Street. The team’s tasks will include everything from framing and roofing to painting and landscaping, ensuring that every aspect of the home is built to the highest standards of safety and quality.

The impact of the NCCC team doesn’t stop at the construction site. They will also be lending their hands at our Charleston and Teays Valley ReStores. These stores play a critical role in our mission, selling donated goods to support Habitat’s work. The NCCC volunteers will assist in processing donations, organizing inventory, and improving the overall shopping experience for our customers. Their contributions will help ensure that our ReStores continue to thrive, providing much-needed funds for future Habitat projects.

The presence of the AmeriCorps NCCC team in Charleston is more than just a boost to our workforce; it’s a testament to the power of service and community. These young adults have chosen to dedicate their time and energy to making a tangible difference in the lives of others. Their work will not only help build a home for a family in need but will also strengthen the fabric of our community as a whole.

For those considering joining AmeriCorps NCCC, this is an incredible opportunity to serve, learn, and grow. The experiences gained through this program are invaluable, offering not just the chance to make a difference, but also to develop leadership skills, build lifelong friendships, and contribute to the greater good.

As we prepare to welcome the NCCC team, we extend our deepest gratitude to them for choosing to serve with us. Together, we’re not just building houses; we’re building a better future for families in Charleston and beyond.
