X-WR-CALDESC:The Master Homeowner Program consists of nine classes presente
 d each week in Habitat for Humanity of Kanawha & Putnam’s Homeowner Educat
 ion and Community Center. Each class runs about two hours thirty minutes.
 \n\nClasses are offered two cycles per year. Registration is now open for 
 the Fall 2026 Master Homeowner Program. \n\nMaster Homeowner Program\n\nHo
 meowner’s Toolbox: Homeowners learn what basic tools will be needed for fr
 equent tasks in and around the house\, how to use the tools properly\, and
  how to store the tools.\n\nHome Maintenance: Homeowners learn the most im
 portant motives for and consequences of not maintaining their property\, w
 here to begin\, what to look for\, and in some circumstances how to perfor
 m maintenance that will keep the value of their investment in tact and kee
 p their environment comfortable and safe.\n\nLegal\, Insurance\, and Finan
 cial Issues of Homeownership: Homeowners learn about all of the paperwork 
 needed when purchasing a house\, how to make the best decisions for an ind
 ividual’s circumstances\, and how not to be a victim of predatory lending 
 practices. This class also teaches participants why estate planning is imp
 ortant\, what it entails and how the laws view neighborhood nuisances.\n\n
 Home Fire Safety & Prevention: Homeowners learn the nature of and most com
 mon causes of house fires\, how to prevent fires and what to do in case of
  fire. This class teaches participants\, hands-on\, how to use fire exting
 uishers and properly place them in the home.\n\nBasic Household Plumbing P
 art 1: Homeowners learn how the plumbing system works\, getting water into
  the house\, how it travels to each fixture and controlling that water to 
 avoid costly damage.\n\nBasic Household Plumbing Part 2:  Homeowners learn
  how the plumbing system works to move the waste water out\, recognize way
 s to avoid costly problems\, and about HVAC systems\, (ductwork\, ventilat
 ion and maintenance).\n\nHome Electrical Basics: Homeowners learn to ident
 ify the type of service panel in their house and the functions of a basic 
 residential electrical system. This class teaches practical electrical saf
 ety and energy usage in the home. It also explains new lighting options\, 
 space heater safety\, brownouts/surges and if an electrician is needed and
  how to hire one.\n\nHome & Neighborhood Safety: Homeowners learn to ident
 ify potential threats to the security of their person and property and lea
 rn the best practices in reporting and deterring security risks. This clas
 s teaches homeowners how to increase the potential for stolen property bei
 ng returned. It also covers how to organize and maintain a Neighborhood Wa
 tch Program.\n\nNeighborhood Relations: Homeowners gain a better understan
 ding of the importance of forming positive relationships with their close 
 neighbors and the wider community\, thus being empowered to improve their 
 environment for their family and their neighborhood.\n\nAll ages and exper
 ience levels have something to learn! To earn a Master Homeowner Certifica
 te\, homeowners must complete each class in addition to a nine-week course
